Newsletter No. 38 8th December 2010

8th December 2010
Newsletter No. 38

I hope that last week’s unplanned school closure did not inconvenience you all too much. Unfortunately, I had no option but to take the decision to close on Friday for health and safety reasons. As a forward plan for any similar situation, please note we would again keep parents informed through groupcall text messaging and updates on the Redbridge website (www.redbridge .gov.uk). Therefore, it is crucial that we have up to date contact details for all parents/carers. If you have recently changed your mobile number, please let the school office know.

Icy Conditions Whilst every effort will be made to grit pathways etc., please do take care when entering and leaving the site. Site staff do their utmost to ensure that surfaces are safe. However, with limited time before school, it is not always certain that all ice patches will have melted.

Contacting the School Please note that the school office is open from 8am to 5pm, with a break for office staff at 10-11am and 1.30-2.30pm. It is not acceptable for parents to assume that staff will be here as early as 6 or 7am as was the case last week.

Nursery/Reception Christmas Performances We had a fantastic turnout for these performances on Tuesday. Thank you to all parents who attended and supported these events, and to all the staff for their hard work.

Year 3 Performance We look forward to seeing Year 3 parents on Friday at 1.45pm for their Christmas performance.

Christmas Parties These will take place next week as listed overleaf. Children can bring their party clothes to change into, a snack and a drink. They will have lunch as usual.

Dinner Money Arrears If you owe for school dinners, please clear your debt by Friday to ensure that your child can have a school dinner next week.

Breakfast/After School Childcare Provision I regret to inform you that from January there will be a slight increase in the charge: Breakfast - £3 per session After School - £8 per session
This is to enable us to be able to cover the costs of staffing and feeding the children.

PTA CHRISTMAS PANTOMIME The PTA has arranged a pantomime on the 16th December for all children, free of charge. Children from morning AND afternoon Nursery, Reception and Year 1 classes will see the Pantomime in the morning and children from Year 2 to 6 classes will see the Pantomime in the afternoon. ALSO, PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PANTOMIME FOR YEARS 2-6 WILL NOT FINISH UNTIL 4PM SO PICK UP WILL BE A LITTLE LATER.

Nursery Dropping Off/Collection of Children A reminder to parents of Nursery children for the beginning and the end of the school day. Please bring and collect your children to and from the outside door to Nursery. If you have children in other classes you need to walk around the outside of the building to the appropriate entrance rather than enter the school building.

Free Maths Course for Parents If you have a child in Reception or Year 1 we would like to invite you to join our Family Numeracy Course starting on Monday 10th January 2011. This unique 12 week course will help you brush up on your maths skills; teach you how to support your child with maths; and allow you to take part in maths sessions with your child in school. Parents will have an opportunity to gain a City and Guilds qualification in Maths and will receive a certificate. A free crèche and refreshments will be provided.
