Newsletter No 43 26th January 2011

Attendance The class with the highest percentage was Year 2 Yellow with 100%. Well done Year 2 Yellow! The overall percentage for the whole school was 95.4 %. I would also like to remind you that children who are taken out of school for holidays during term time will be at serious risk of being removed from the school roll.

Money Management Course for Parents We will be hosting a free 2 day Money management course for parents. If you would like to find out how to manage your money, stop overspending, reduce your debts and learn to budget as well as where to get help, then this may be the course for you. The course will be held on Tuesday 1st February and Wednesday 2nd February from 9am – 10.30am. Free refreshments will be provided and an attendance certificate awarded; however there will be no crèche available on this occasion. If you would like to reserve a place, please phone the school office on 0208 518 2562 or pop in to put your name down on the waiting list.

Dinner Arrears Please make sure that dinner money is paid in advance, otherwise you will be asked to provide a packed lunch for your child.

Nursery/Reception School Uniform If you have any school uniform that is no longer used but is in good condition Nursery and Reception classes would be grateful of any donations.

Year 3 and 4 Football 1st Club Children in Years 3 and 4 were offered an additional football club on a Monday and Wednesday after school. Unfortunately, due to a very low take up we are not able to continue with these. However, if you wish your child to attend the Football First session on a Friday please contact Anna on 07834 386 814 to get the details of costs and times. We will review this again for the summer term to look at offering additional football clubs in the better weather!

Open School I would like to remind all parents and carers to walk through the school and look at your child’s class books this afternoon (26th Jan) between 3.30 and 4.15pm. Please note that this is, once again, an opportunity for the children to show their books to their parents, rather than a meeting with the class teacher.

Parent Questionnaire On this occasion, we will also have parent questionnaires available for you to complete, as we are keen to gather your views on the schools strengths and areas for development.

Late collection of Children During the week Monday 10th to Friday 14th January a total of 52 children were collected as late as 4.20pm at the end of the school day. Over the following weeks we will be closely monitoring this situation. Persistent lateness in collecting your child from school may result in a referral to the Education Welfare Services and a charge for providing childcare. Some parents are taking advantage and expecting school staff to be late for their own children and provide free childcare. This is clearly not acceptable.

PTA Family Quiz Night Reminder This is tonight at 6.15-8pm. Why not come along and have some fun, bring drinks and nibbles?

Staffing Update I am sure you have noticed that we have some teachers who will be going on maternity leave later this year. Saffiyah will be starting her leave on 28th February. 1G will be covered by Mursheda for the remainder of the year. Caroline and Julia will be starting their leaves after Easter. I am currently in the process of arranging their cover. Junaida will not be here for the remainder of this year as she has been seconded to another school as deputy headteacher. She will return to her duties here in September 2011. I am sure you will all join me in wishing them all well.

Attendance The class with the highest percentage was Year 2 Green with 99.3%. Well done Year 2 Green! The overall percentage for the whole school was 95.1%. I would also like to remind you that children who are taken out of school for holidays during term time will be removed from the school roll.

Coffee Morning We had a fantastic turnout and would like to thank all the parents who came along to our first coffee morning on Tuesday. Those who managed to have a head massage and/or facial thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a great atmosphere and we are planning to make parents’ coffee mornings a regular event. We would especially like to thank two of our parents who offered free beauty treatments on the day. Paula Constantinou offered free head massages and Rubila Amjad offered free mini facials, both parents helped to make the event a real success and their kindness and generosity are much appreciated.

Next PTA Meeting The next PTA meeting is this Friday (21st January) at 9.30am

Money Management Course for Parents We will be hosting a free 2 day Money management course for parents. If you would like to find out how to manage your money, stop overspending, reduce your debts and learn to budget as well as where to get help, then this may be the course for you. Some things we need to work on this term:

It is very important children attend school every day and that any absence is reported to the School Office. Hannah Shaw Cranbrook are very lucky to have Hannah Shaw a young children's author and illustrator visiting the school for the day on Friday 12th November. Newsletter No.33

I would like to welcome you all back and we are all very excited about the term ahead. It was great to see everyone dressed so smartly in their uniforms yesterday which gives us all a real sense of pride in our school. The term ahead will be another busy one with many events taking place across the school so please make sure that you take a few moments to read these weekly newsletters so that you don’t miss any important information and dates.

International Evening It was wonderful to see so many of you coming along to the International Evening at the end of last half-term which was a big success. The Mayor came along to give us his support and it was great for him to see our school and the amazing talents of many of our pupils who took part. Thankyou to all of you who donated your time and food to the event and a special thank you to Junaida who organised not only the evening but many different workshops and activities for the children throughout our ‘Diversity’ week.

Beijing Visit This week sees the return of Helen, Mark (year 2) and Samina (year 4) from their weeks visit to Beijing as part of our international links. They are already sharing their exciting experiences with us all. The week was spent in a school, meeting other teachers and children and setting up links with them which we will be able to develop over the coming year. They also spent time teaching in the school which proved to be quite different to teaching at Cranbrook! Their Chinese hosts were wonderful throughout the week and we have passed on our thanks to them for looking after them so well. Watch out for a display of their visit and watch this space as this will be an ongoing relationship!

Rainbow Arts Festival You will remember that a number of our children performed at the ‘Rainbow Arts Festival’ arranged with the Gants Hill Extended Partnership of which we are a member. Apologies to Naval Agraval in year 5 who stunned us all with his drumming schools but got missed of last terms newsletter…sorry Naval, you were great!

PTA Hallowe’en Event On Thursday we will be having the PTA Hallowe’en event taking place in school. This will mean there will be no clubs running after school on Thursday. Missed sessions will be rearranged by the club leader. If you have bought your child a ticket for the event then they will be able to come to school in their fancy dress and there will be a prize for the best Hallowe’en costume. Please make sure you collect your children promptly after the events if they have a ticket for the events:
Nursery and Reception at the normal time (3.15)
Year 1 and 2 at 4.45pm
Years 3,4,5 and 6 at 5pm
If you haven’t bought a ticket but wish to come in fancy dress/ non-school uniform on Thursday your child can do so with a £1 donation. Thank you to the PTA members for all of their time and work in preparing for the event and raising money to be spent on our children.

Year 6 Meeting A reminder to the parents of our Year 6 children of the meeting on Monday at 2.30pm to hear more about the year ahead, SATs, the residential trip and the curriculum. The meeting will take place in the dance studio. Please come to the main office entrance to sign in.

Book Fair The Book Fair was a big success and it was wonderful to see so many of our children buying books to enjoy at home. You bought so many that the Book Fair company will also be donating lots of books to add to our school library. Thank you to Oriel for organising these events.
Children’s author Hannah Shaw visit We will also be having a visit from the well known children’s author Hannah Shaw. She will be in school on Friday 12th November and will be signing and selling copies of her books in the small hall from 3.10pm.

Collection from After School Club If you are collecting your child from an after school club, could you please make sure that you come into the school to collect them rather than staying in your car in the car park. The teachers running the clubs need to make sure they are handing over your children safely to you at the end of the session.

Drummers I am thrilled to report how impressed and pleased I was with the performance of our drummers: Santana (5B), Tyler (3G), Riddhi (3G) Wakaris (3B) and Deniz (3G) when they represented the school at last week’s Art Festival at Ilford Ursuline High School. Although I am biased, I thought they put on a stunning performance with immense confidence. Please look out for this week’s edition of the Ilford Recorder where there will be an article and pictures.

Year 6 Residential Trip Unfortunately, only 14 parents have confirmed they would like their child to go. As the minimum number we need to confirm the booking is 16, I would urge remaining parents to have another think and let Rhonda in the School Office know by the end of tomorrow. I will send out a letter to the 14 parents with an update on Friday.

Beijing Trip Helen Radmore, Mark Evans and Samina Rai are in Beijing this week meeting our partner school. Please log on to the website to follow their progress and post comments for them! The website address is cranbrookprimary.blogspot.com. They are visiting Hepingli Number 2 primary school which is currently in a temporary building because their own school building is having some structural work done to strengthen it, so that it can be safe if there is an earthquake! They are talking about school competitions and their involvement in the Olympics.
