Pupil Achievements It is a pleasure to congratulate the following pupils for being awarded the Gold Award for their success in class: Sarisha Aggarwal in Yr 2 Red, Andrea Mwnidu in Yr 3 Green, Subhan Patel in Yr 4 Blue and Suzanna Alam in Yr 4 Blue. Well done children! I hope you enjoy the books you chose as your prize.

Attendance I am thrilled to announce that last week’s overall school attendance percentage was 96% which means we have reached our target of 95% for the first time. This is very good news indeed – please keep up the good work!

The class with the highest percentage – 99.7% - was Yr 1 Red – Well done!

Percentages for other classes were as follows:
Rec Blue 91.0% Rec Green 91.7% Rec Red 98.3% Rec Yellow 94.1%
Yr1 Blue 98.0% Yr 1 Green 97.2% Yr 1 Red 99.7% Yr 1 Yellow 97.3%
Yr2 Blue 98.6% Yr 2 Green 97.3% Yr 2 Red 97.0% Yr 2 Yellow 98.6%
Yr3 Green 93.3% Yr 3 Red 93.7% Yr 4 Blue 90.7% Yr 4 Yellow 98.0%
Yr5 Red 97.3% Yr 6 Yellow 95.2%

Please remember to call the school if your child is absent as all absences need to be recorded with reasons. Our registers are reviewed by the Education Welfare Officer each week.

Best Chess Player in Essex Aditya Verma in Yr 1 Red has been competing in chess tournaments and is now the best chess player in Essex. Congratulations Aditya!

Parent Volunteers Meeting Thank you to all the parents who came to this meeting today. I am very excited about your support towards the school projects we discussed.

Nursery Messy Fun Day Thank you to those parents who joined their children at the messy fun session in Nursery today. The children had a lovely, messy time!

Skip Hop We were delighted to welcome Johnny from the Skip Hop team to the school on Friday. He worked with years 3 and 4, the year 6 sports leaders and the midday assistants teaching them a range of skipping activities which can be played at home or in school. Skipping is an excellent way to encourage a healthy lifestyle. If you wish to order a skipping rope there is an order form in the school office. Please place your order by Friday 28th May.

Playground Equipment We have had a selection of playground equipment fitted last week and work will continue this week. The children are enjoying the new seating and we are all looking forward to the other equipment being fully operational later this week.

Family French Course The Children’s Centre is running a free 5 week course starting Wednesday 9th June until 7th July, 3:45-5pm. This is for mothers, fathers, grandparents and carers with children of 5 years and over. For information or to book a place, please call the children’s centre on 0208 518 2562 and select option 1.

Collecting Children During the School Day If you have to collect your child early for an appointment, please ensure that you tell the teacher who will then notify the school office. If possible you should send a note in advance. If, on the very rare occasion, you may have to collect your child due to an unforeseeable emergency then please bring photo ID such as a passport or a driving licence with you to the school office so that the office staff can verify who the adults collecting the children are as they are less familiar with parents than class teachers.

Internet Safety I would like to emphasise the need to monitor what your children are doing on the internet at home. There are many unsuitable sites and it is important that you know your child is safe while on the internet.

Security We are shortly going to be having some work done to control all entry onto the site during the school day through automated gates. I will update on progress in future newsletters. However, I would ask all parents to support us with ensuring that you only enter the school building via the school office. This is especially important at the beginning and end of the day.

Staffing Update I am pleased to report that we were very successful in our recent appointment of deputy head teachers, which the governors and school council fed into. Following a rigorous appointment process, we appointed 3 deputies for September – Helen Radmore, who is currently the interim deputy head, Darshan Kaur, who is currently the Numeracy and Assessment consultant for Redbridge and Mark Hemsley, who is deputy head at a school in Waltham Forest. All three will bring a huge amount of experience to the school and we look forward to them taking up post in September.

We have also taken on additional class teachers for September as we will have 3 extra classes as the school continues to grow. A further key appointment has also been made – a Parent Support Advisor who will be available to support all parent with a wide ranges of things including providing information about local provision, housing and income support.

Inset Day This Friday 28th May is an Inset Day, so please make arrangements for your child.

I hope you enjoy the Half Term Break and look forward to seeing the children back at school on Monday 7th June.

Yours faithfully

Please remember to call the school if your child is absent as all absences need to be recorded with reasons. Our registers are reviewed by the Education Welfare Officer each week.

Parent Volunteers Meeting I would like to invite all parents with enhanced CRBs already in place to attend a meeting on 26th May at 9:15am if you are interested in helping within the school.

Nursery Messy Fun Day The nursery staff will be inviting parents to join their children in a messy fun session on Wednesday 26th May. A letter will be sent out soon with more details.

Pantamime The Kenneth More Theatre will be visiting school on 27th May to perform a pantomime for our Key Stage 2 children.

Open School Session for Nursery A.M. We will be offering an opportunity for morning nursery parents to see their children’s book of work before school on June 10th between 8.45 – 9.15 instead of the later time previously announced. This will only apply to the parents of children who attend nursery in the mornings.

Charity Bikeathon In assembly tomorrow the children will be hearing about a Bikeathon & Fun Day which raises money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. The event will take place in Valentines Park on Sunday 13th June. We hope that many of our pupils will take part. This event is not run by the school so you would need to ensure your child is accompanied by a responsible adult.

Library We are starting to scan the books and enter them on to our electronic library system. We look forward to inviting you to our grand opening in the near future.

No Balls Games before School Balls games are not allowed in the playground at the start of the day for health and safety reasons. We have a large number of people in the playground at that time including pregnant ladies and babies and we do not want any accidents.

Playground Equipment We are having a selection of playground equipment fitted this week including a boat and gym equipment. The children are being well behaved during the installation and we are all looking forward to it being fully operational next week.

Breakfast and After School Club It has come to my attention that our current Breakfast Club provider has decided to stop working with us from Half Term. I realise that this is short notice for parents and I am looking to put interim arrangements in place to help those parents. We will write to parents with further information next week. We are hoping to launch a new Breakfast and After School Club service from September. More news to follow.

Curent Year 1 Last Friday, all parents should have received a letter about re-organising classes for September. Having spoken to some of you this week, I have had a very mixed response with some parents very pleased about the decision whilst others are concerned about their child’s friendships. I would, therefore, reassure you all again that every effort will be made to cause as little disruption as possible in order to have four class groups that are balanced in terms of gender, ability, behaviour and special needs. If you have concerns, as indicated in the letter last week, I would ask you to put them in writing by 27th May so that your concerns can be taken into consideration before new class lists are finalised.

Inset Day 28th May is an Inset Day, so please make arrangements for your child.

Yours faithfully

Wellgate Farm Visit The children in Year 1 and Reception very much enjoyed the visit by Wellgate Farm on Friday. I’m sure they will have told you all about it.

Reading Scheme Meeting for Parents It was lovely to see so many of you at this meeting.

Open School Session The date of the Open School Session has been changed to 10th June and will run from 3:30 – 4:15pm. This is an opportunity for your child to take you through the school and to share their class books with you. This is not an Open Evening. It is an informal visit to look at the school and your child’s work.

Parent Volunteers Meeting I would like to invite all parents with enhanced CRBs already in place to attend a meeting on 26th May at 9:15am if you are interested in helping within the school.

Parking Please be considerate of our neighbours by the Pavilion Building. The small car park is not for parents, so please do not use it through the day to drop off your children. It is for visitors and staff only.

Zebra Crossing In order to improve road safety for Cranbrook pupils, a new zebra crossing will be installed by the double gates to the car park.

Lining Up in the Mornings The new signs (which will be relevant from September and beyond) have caused some confusion. Please continue using the old system for the remainder of this term.

SATS Update You may be aware through the media that over 70% of schools across the country have not participated in SATS as part of an industrial dispute. We are one of those schools. However, as a school we are committed to assessing pupil progress and providing relevant information to parents on progress. This means that children at Cranbrook Primary will continue to be tested each term.

School Priorities As indicated in previous newsletters, I would like to report that our curriculum priorities over the coming 3 years will be focused on the following core subjects: Reading, Writing and ICT. Plans are in place to add to our provision and we will be organising further meetings to update parents.

GroupCall Our new text message system is now live and you will be receiving texts about school closure, dinner arrears, events, attendance, trips and clubs. If your mobile number has changed please let the School Office know so that you can receive these important messages.

Telephone System You may have noticed when calling the school that the answerphone message system is no longer in place. As a Primary School, I feel it is important that you are able to speak to someone personally and promptly. I hope that parental queries will be processed more quickly in future.

Yours faithfully
