Newsletter No 39 18th July 2012

As we come to end of another school year, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your continued support and would like to reflect over this year’s successes.
Highlights of this year

¨       A fantastic summer fayre—which raised £3,400.  The CFA has raised £9,000  over the last 2 years, which is going to be spent on developing our Chicken/Sensory Garden.
¨       A fun and competitive Sports Day.
¨       A memorable Olympic Week.
¨       Jubilee Week and related events.
¨       Glasbury trip for Year 6
¨       Enthusiastic, happy and wonderful children.

Congratulations  Congratulations to Matthew Pokuah (2B) for achieving his gold award.
Headteacher Awards were awarded to the following children:Faiza Shakeel (2R) for her story being published, Kerathan Sajinan (RG) for excellent writing, Surya Premkumar (1B) and Aleena Khawaja (1B) for wonderful maths work.
Well done, also to all the children who achieved their 100% attendance.

Early finish Friday 20th July  School will be closing at 2pm on Friday 20th July so please make sure you have made arrangments to collect your child at this earlier time. There will also be no After School Club provision.
Year 6 Assembly  Year 6 Assembly to parents is on Friday 20th July at 9am. 
Attendance The classes with the highest percentages are 1 Red and 3 Yellow both with 98.6%. Well done to both classes!  The overall percentage for the whole school was 93.8%.
1st day of Autumn Term  All children will be expected to return to school on Thursday 6th September.  Any parents whose children that are absent on the first two days of term will receive fines, if they are still on holiday as the dates have been shared through the year.
Highland Games  Cranbrook’s first ever Highland Games will take place after school today (Weds) from 3.15-4.30pm in the playground.  There will be lots of Scottish games and entertainment to raise money for VSO, an international development charity.  The CFA will also be selling food and drinks.

School Lettings:
Bollywood Fuzion & Zumba Classes for Ladies (Letting) Bollywood Fuzion is a Bollywood fitness dance and Zumba (latin based) class which willin our Dance Studio as follows:, 7:30—8:30pm Bollywood FuZion and 8.30-9.30pm Zumba and on Saturdays: Zumba 10am-11am. Summer Holiday Tennis Courses  Tennis courses are being held at Cranbrook Castle LT and SC,
St Georges Road

Cranbrook Volunteers We would like to say a very big thank you to all of our volunteers who have given their time and commitment throughout the last year. The energy and enthusiasm shown by all of the volunteers has been much appreciated by the staff and pupils alike. Each volunteer is set to receive a nationally recognised volunteering qualification accredited by the open college network for the time and effort they have dedicated to Cranbrook.
First Day of Term  On the first day back at school in September all classes except Reception Red and Reception Green should line up in the playground where the Classteachers will collect your children.  There will be signs to show you where to assemble.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support and lovely gifts and wish you all an enjoyable summer break and look forward to seeing you again on Thursday 6th September, when school re-opens for pupils.

SILC Dance Festival  Well done to the dancers who represented Cranbrook at the Ilford Ursuline Dance Festival. A great time was had by all!  The children who took part were:

Year 6 performance  The Year 6 performance to parents is tomorrow (Thursday) 12th July at 2pm. As there will be many parents/carers attending please enter the school hall in a calm manner for health and safety reasons.
Coloured Assemblies  Please note that there will be NO coloured assemblies due to the Year 6 performance taking place.
End of Year Reports  Reports will be sent home with your child this Friday 13th July.  Along with your child’s report will be an acknowledgment slip to be returned to the classteacher by Wednesday 18th July. If you have any queries please speak to their classteacher.
Parent/Governor  Following the ballot for Parent/Governor I would like to congratulate Mr. Anthony Barton on being elected and would also like to thank Mr. Moyna Miah for putting himself forward for nomination.
Nursery The last day for Nursery children is this Friday (13th) as Nursery will be closed next week in preparation for the Autumn term.
Early finish Friday 20th July  Advance notice of the early closure on the last day of the school year.  We will be closing at 2pm on Friday 20th July and there will be no After School Club.
Year 6 Leavers Disco and Assembly  The Year 6 Leavers’ Disco is taking place next Wednesday 18th July from 2pm-4pm and the Year 6 Assembly is on Friday 20th July at 9am.  Details of these two events were sent home to parents at the end of last week.
Attendance The class with the highest percentage is Year 1 Blue with 100%. Well done to Year 1 Blue!  The overall percentage for the whole school was 95.5%.
Ramadan Fasting Only Years 5 and 6 children will be able to fast during the Ramadan period as we are unable to supervise the younger children at this time and would encourage parents to bear this in mind.
Olympic Traffic  Please ensure you allow sufficient time to get to school on time as there will be an impact on local traffic during the build-up to the Olympic Games.

Parking Complaint  We have received a complaint from one of the residents of The Drive regarding inconsiderate parents/carers continuing to block driveways during the morning and afternoon, leaving their cars unattended.  Would the owners of the following vehicles please park in a safe and considerate place: Blue BMW registration number beginning MT08, a blue Renault LV06 FGX and a purple Ford Fiesta GN56 NRF.
CFA Cranbrook Fayre  We would like to thank the following businesses who donated their time or prizes to the school fayre and also the supplier of the oranges for sports day:
Barclays, for the 12 staff they provided and the match funding of £3,000 they donated for this event.
Shamim for donating her time on the Henna Stall.
Margaret’s Flowers/Sash Events for the raffle donation and their ongoing support to the school.
Inner Beauty, London Darbar and Premium Foods for their donations to the raffle.
Forest Farm at Fairlop for the oranges provided on Sports Day.

Lost Property  All items in the lost property containers will be on display in the main hall during Open School on Tuesday 17th July. Please visit the main hall to claim any of your missing items.

Year 2 performance  A reminder that the Year 2 performance to parents is tomorrow (Thursday) at 2.15pm.

Olympic Week  We had a really exciting Olympic Week and Mark (Olympic and PE Coordinator) and I would like to thank all the teachers for their contribution to such a successful week. The Olympic team of Mark, Ian, Chloe, Deniece, Priya, Paul and Pauline made it a week to remember for the school.  The Cranbrook Emissaries had a few words to say about Sports Day and the Closing Ceremony.
“At Sports Day I loved the variety of games that we played but I definitely needed my rest at the rest station.” Allay Rasul (Year 5 Red).
“I loved the shot put and the final sprint where I came second in the Year 5 and 6 race!” Chukwudi Okquone (5 Green).
“I really enjoyed the classes’ dance and they represented their chosen countries really well” Jordain Jhagroo-Bryan (4 Yellow).
“I loved the final KS1 and 2 song where we all sung together and the lighting of the Olympic Torch” Mariam Ghaloo (4 Green).
I am sure you will all agree it was a great week!

CFA Cranbrook Fayre 2012 The Year Group Team Stall Challenge Results:
Most Tokens: 3rd Place Yr 4 with 285—£142.50, 2nd Place Yr 1 with 302—£151.00, 1st place Reception with 303—£151.50. Well done also to Year 2 who came 4th with a single stall who sold 276 tokens and raised £138.00.
Jas’ Choice goes to Year 1 for the most attractive stall and a special mention for Year 4 and the ‘Spongeathon’.
End of Year Reports  Reports will be sent home with your child on Friday 13th July as we are awaiting Year 6 SATs results.
Open School/Meet New Classteacher  Parents/Carers are invited to come into school on Tuesday 17th July at 3.30-4.15pm to view your child’s books and class work and also take this opportunity to meet your child’s new classteacher for next year.
Medicines and Asthma Pumps  Would parents/carers please check the expiry date on any medicines and/or asthma pumps that we have in school.  If out of date, please discard and arrange for new ones to be brought to school in September.
SILC Arts Festival Some of our children will be representing Cranbrook by dancing in the Ilford Ursuline Arts Festival this evening. We wish them good luck—an update will be provided next week.
Mountain Bike Display On Monday, the children enjoyed an exciting Mountain Bike display by the Mountain Bike Aerial Display team.Mad Mike and Jumping Joe performed stunts, tricks and undertook challenges while the children clapped and cheered them on.We have some wonderful photos which will be displayed on the new Travel Plan noticeboard.Thanks to Priya and Amanda for arranging this.
Travel Plan Noticeboard Please take a look at our new Travel Plan noticeboard in the School Reception.This includes a copy of our travel plan, our park and stride map, photos of the Mountain Bike display and, in the future, will feature information on cycle training, Dr Bike sessions and other events.

11 Plus Selection Test Reminder Parents of year 5 pupils who would like their child to sit the 11+ selection test for grammar school are required to register for the test by Thursday 5th July 2012. Registration can be carried out online by accessing the LBR website via www.redbridge.gov.uk and then clicking on the ‘register for 11 plus test’ tab and completing the form online or downloading the form. The 11+ selection test will take place this year on Monday 3rd September 2012. 
Get on your bike this summer Redbridge residents are invited to get on their bike and take part in the free Skyride event taking place in the Borough this summer. The next event takes place at 10 am on Sunday 8th July at Fairlop Water Clubhouse, Barkingside. The 35 minute 3.3 mile route is designed for all ages.You can register for the event and get information on all the other forthcoming Skyride events in the Borough by visiting The Go Skyride website
Summer Cycling Sessions in Redbridge Parks  If you enjoy riding your bike, come and join in the fun during the summer at various parks in Redbridge.  This event is free of charge for children and adults—all ages welcome.  For further information please contact 020 8708 3577 or 020 8708 3925 or email: highways.roadsafety@redbridge.gov.uk.
Wanstead Family Festival  The Wanstead Festival is taking place on Sunday 12th August on Christchurch Green, Wanstead High Street from 11am-5pm/  There’s fun for all the family.  The FREE cycling fun will include a novelty bike try-out area, a bike assault course, Dr Bike (a bike mechanic who will check, adjust and if possible fix your bike for FREE), plus much, much more!

Congratulations  Congratulations to Zain Abbas  (5R) and Safa Chowdhury (1B) for achieving their Gold Awards. Well done, children!
Medication in School Please note, if your child needs to take medication during the school day, do not put any medication in your child’s bag and do not try to give it to our teachers or teaching assistants, as they are not allowed to administer it.  Any child on antibiotics will need to have it administered by a parent or carer. All asthma pumps should also be given to the School Office.
Year 6 Glasbury Trip   Our Year 6 children arrived back safely from their week long Glasbury trip on Friday. They had a wonderful time and are full of stories about the fun they had and the activities they took part in. The children would like to say a big thank you to Sharifa, Jade, Helen and Ian for looking after them so well.
Transition Information Session for Year 5 Parents  I would like to thank those parents who attended the session on Monday morning. The feedback was very positive.
Sports Day We had a wonderful time at Sports Day on Tuesday and were lucky to have nice weather. Congratulations to all the winners and well done to all the children for trying hard. Thank you to Chloe, Ian and Mark for arranging this super event. A special thank you to Di, Rash, Hannah and Paula for helping on the day and providing the water and healthy snacks for this event.
Cooking Activities Years 1—6 will be taking part in cooking activities including an Olympic Breakfast on Friday 29th June.  We would ask for a donation of £1 to cover the cost of the ingredients please.
Anti-bullying As a staff team we strive to create a safe and secure environment, where children feel happy and progress well.  Therefore, I am saddened to discover that one of our pupils has been the victim of bullying over a sustained period of time and did not tell any adults in school or at home.  Whilst, we have and are dealing with this situation I would urge all parents to be vigilant and discuss any concerns with the classteacher promptly, so that we can work together in partnership to prevent any other Cranbrook Child from facing this type of situation.
Olympic Week Closing Ceremony As part of our Olympic Week activities, we will be having a closing ceremony in the playground (weather permitting) on Friday 29th June starting at 2pm for Years 1-6.  All parents are very welcome to attend. We look forward to seeing you there.
Non-uniform day  Friday 29th June will be a non-uniform day for a donation of £1 per child.  The children are invited to come into school dressed linked to the country they have been working on during Olympic Week.  All money received will go towards sports facilities in school.
Reception Class events  A letter will be going out by the end of the week about the following two events for our Reception classes: 
Teddy Bear’s Picnic on 3rd July, pm
Sports Day on 11th July, am if the weather allows or may move to pm. We hope you will be able to come along and join in the fun.

School Lettings Details:
Boot Sale (Letting) Do come along to the Boot Sale in our playground on Saturday 30th June.  If you would like a pitch, set up is from 7:30—9am and you will pay £8 on the day.  No animals, alcohol or tobacco to be sold.  Gates open at 9am and the entry fee is 30p for adults. Children enter for free.  All proceeds to help school facilities and teaching aids for our children. 11 Plus Tuition Classes (Letting) Parents who are interested in joining the classes taking place in the Small Hall, should contact Neelam Naqvi on 07739 319191 for information and bookings. These classes will run Saturday and Sunday, 12-4 until until 15 July and Monday to Friday, 12-2pm through the Summer holidays.
Summer Maths Club for Year 3 and 4 children (Letting) Will run each Thursday to the 19th July. Omega Club  The Omega Club has successfully completed publishing their magazine, ‘Cranbrook R Us’.  These magazines are on sale for £1 only.  There are limited copies so buy them before they’re all gone!
Security  We have been made aware if a number of incidents in Ilford where children have been approached by strangers.  Please be extra vigilant.
