Newsletter 25 27th March 2013

We come to the end of yet another school term and time seems to be flying. Once again it has been a very busy, yet productive term and I am pleased to report on the school’s continued successes in the following areas:

• An increasingly improving reputation within the local community, with long waiting lists at all year groups.

• The continuing good behaviour and attitude of our pupils.

• The continued support and engagement of parents and the local community in the school’s drive for improvements and in fundraising events.

• The recent and past CFA/school events and the Diversity Celebration Event—what a great response!

• The stable staff team and the governing body that remains committed to furthering the work of the school and it’s achievements.

Our priorities remain:

• Improving children's reading, writing and mathematics skills.

• More able pupils to achieve higher grades.

• Parking!! Improving the behaviour of some parents in the car park.

Car Park I am absolutely appalled at the behaviour of a minority of parents with their dangerous driving, parking and atrocious behaviour towards one another. Once again we have had complaints and observed this ourselves. HAVE SOME DECENCY, PEOPLE!! :(
Parents’ Evening for Nursery - Year 5 Please remember that parents evening is on Thursday 14th March.

Celebration Day Our next date to note in your diary is “Green Day” on Friday 15th March, where we are inviting pupils to wear non-uniform with a green theme in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day (which is on 17th March). No donations are to be made by children. Please do not send in a change of clothes for your child during the day as this is disruptive to the office staff and your child’s class.
World Book Day It was fantastic to see so many children dress up as their favourite book character last week. The classes took part in lots of literary related activities. A great time was had by all! I would like to take the opportunity to thank all staff for their contribution, especially the literacy team led by Aine, Ian and Samantha.
Fronter Have you logged onto Fronter? Have you tried any of the activities? What do you think of the activities? We would like to hear your views. If you can share your experience of Fronter and tell us what you like or make any suggestions, please come to outside the Year 2 Green classroom during parents evening to complete a mini survey and post in the Fronter box.
The Big Pedal Thank you to the 78 children who cycled and scooted to school on Friday. Our very first Biker’s Breakfast was popular, Dr Bike was busy fixing bikes and some of our Year 3 children enjoyed Beginners Cycling Sessions.
Our next Big Pedal event is on Wednesday 20th March and again, all children who cycle or scoot to school will receive a raffle ticket and are invited to join our Biker’s Breakfast in the small hall from 8.30am. The Dr Bike session is now full and slips have been sent home to those allocated a place. If your child has not received a slip, you do not have a place. Bikes should be clearly labelled and left in the gym area in the playground. Beginners cycling sessions will take place for more of our Year 3 and 4 children.
We will be running another Dr Bike session and more beginners sessions so that all who signed up can take part at a later date.
Payments Please remember to send payments in separate envelopes for dinner money and any school trips etc. Dinner money should be paid in advance and put in a clearly marked envelope (child’s name, class and amount).  Please remember there is a box in the office where you can bring in school dinner payments and “drop and go”.
Instrument Lessons If your child receives violin lessons from Bradley , he will not be teaching on Tuesday 26th March as he will be acting as an examiner for the Music Service.
