Racist Incident Monitoring You may be aware that all schools are required to monitor, record and respond to any incidents of racism.  Whilst I am pleased to inform that this is a rare occurrence at Cranbrook, sadly we have once again had a child and his family very distressed by being told that he was not invited to a party because he does not follow the same religion.  I take this type of incident very seriously and would question where the origin of such thoughts come from.  Please see below the school’s stance on racism.
Inclusion Statement
We, the adults and children at Cranbrook Primary School, embrace every member of our community and their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, physical and mental ability, beliefs etc.  We recognise all that they contribute to the school.  Every person is unique and brings varying life experiences, beliefs and cultures. They positively add to the rich learning environment of our community.  We will respect, value and learn from all of these, ensuring that we treat everyone as we would wish to be treated.  This will uphold the Cranbrook Values of:
Respect
Excellence
Equality
Friendship
Courage
Determination
Inspiration
We will challenge any individual or group who does not support this ethos.  If we fully encompass the diversity of Cranbrook Primary School our children today will develop a broad outlook on life which will impact positively on their future tomorrow.

Year 1 Phonics Test You may be aware from information that we have provided previously that Year 1 pupils will be tested on their phonic skills. This is a new national test that has been introduced this year. The test will be carried out during week beginning 18th June.

Dress Up Clothes We would be very grateful for hats, old handbags, dress up clothes etc for our Early Years children. If your child has outgrown their old ‘Disney clothes’ please donate to Nursery and/or Reception

Parent’s Feedback Thank you to all parents who placed comments in the Parent’s Suggestion box and on the whiteboards at Open School. We have shared these with staff and thank you for your continued support of the school. More merits and awards are being shared in assemblies.

Parking Workshop Many thanks to those parents who attended the Police Safer Parking Workshop on Tuesday morning. The feedback was very encouraging and we will be running this event again. The Police expressed their concern that 50% of the adults and children arriving at our school in cars were not wearing seatbelts. Seatbelts save lives so please make this a rule in your car. The Police will be visiting us regularly to enforce the law on seatbelts.

Diamond Jubilee Week Please note that the week of 28th May will be ‘Diamond Jubilee Week’ at Cranbrook Primary School. Watch this space for more details of non-uniform day, lunch parties, a parade and other exciting events.

Jubilee/Afternoon Tea Party A Jubilee/Afternoon Tea party is being organised by the local Neighbourhood Watch Team for the 27th May 2012 at the Frenford Club. The event is open to all in the neighbourhood, so family and friends are welcome. There will be a charge on the door of £1 per adult, children free entry. A Neighbourhood Watch newsletter will be printed in the next few weeks with further information.

School Council Charity Bake Sale After the success of the last cake sale, the school council members have organised a bake sale to raise money for a chosen charity. The sale is being held after school TODAY in the small hall. Whether freshly prepared or donated, all the cakes will be utterly delicious, so come along and treat yourself!
