Science Competition Well done to Daren Sungalee, Muhammad Rafay, Zainab Acha and Sarah Sowole who took part in a Science Challenge, competing with other schools and came in a very impressive third place!
 
CFA Movie Night On the 11th December, once again we will be organising a Movie Night for the children as our CFA Fund Raising Event this term.
Last year in we raised £15,000! The money was used to develop the Adventure Playground for all children to enjoy during their time at the school, along with money raised from the Diversity Event and the Summer Fair. This year we would like to build on this success.
A letter has already been sent out yesterday. If you would like your child to participate, please return the reply slip and the money by the 5th December 2014. Late slips will not be considered.

Attendance Well done to class Year 3 Green for achieving 98.3%. The overall percentage for the whole school was 93.8%.
 
Makaton/Communicating Focus There will be a coffee morning on the 1st December at 9am, especially for the Nursery and Reception parents. This will be an opportunity to learn about the use of sign language and how it develops your child’s spoken language.
 
Autism Friendly Shopping Event There will be a special event in every Toys R Us stores on 30th November from 9am to 11am. This is a great chance to enjoy some Christmas shopping with your children, it is exclusive to parents with children with additional needs.
Christmas Dinner will be on the 5th December 2014. There will be letter sent with the Christmas Menu. If you would like your child to have a school dinner, please send in the reply slips along with the money in a sealed envelope with the child’s name and class, no later than Thursday 27th November 2014.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children qualify for a free school meal, there will be no charge should they choose to have a Christmas dinner.
 
Literacy Course for Parents Parents and carers are invited to take part in a 6 week Literacy course at Cranbrook Primary School. The course will start on Friday 9th January 2015 and will run for 6 weeks until Friday 13th February from 9am – 11am. Parents will have the opportunity to understand how and what their children are learning in English lessons at school, gain a greater understanding of grammar and punctuation in order to support their children’s learning in the home and discover new spelling strategies to build confidence. A certificate will be awarded to all participants at the end of the course. If you would like to enrol then please telephone 020 8518 2562.
Newsletters There is an option for newsletters to be sent via email to parents and carers. If you wish to receive the newsletter this way in future, then please forward your email address to: Aysha.BegumMiah@redbridge.gov.uk leaving your childs name and class. If you have more than one child attending the school, please add on their details.
 
Reception Admissions 2015 If your child’s birthday is between 1st September 2010 and 31st August 2011, you can now apply online for a primary school place by visiting the Redbridge website www.redbridge.gov.uk and use the link to eAdmissions. If you are not a Redbridge resident you will need to apply via your own Council (even for a Redbridge school). The deadline for online applications is Thursday 15th January 2015 at 11.59pm. Please note, you will only be allocated a place if your child meets the admissions criteria. Please read it carefully.
 
Change of date for the Christmas Performance for Nursery and Reception Classes - Unfortunately, due to clashes in the school diary, we have had to change the    Performance date to 10th December 2014, the times are:
10am Morning Nursery and Reception Red and Green.
2pm Afternoon Nursery and Reception Yellow and Blue.

Children In Need was a huge success! Thank you to all who supported us in all our activities, we raised approximately £3000!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff who gave up their personal time to stay overnight for the Year 5 Sleepover last Friday.
 
Well done to Aiza Ahmad, Mariyam Malik and Wiktoria Gruszcynska from Year 6 Red who raised £71.42p for Children In Need from family and friends.

Hand Gel Reminder It has come to my notice that some children are bringing in hand gel that is alcohol based. Parents, please make sure you do not give such items to your children, as some children are passing them around to their friends. Staff will confiscate them if they see a child with it.

Please note, you will only be allocated a place if your child meets the admissions criteria. Please read it carefully.

Children In Need On Friday, all children are invited to come in non-uniform dressed as ‘super heroes’ and donate money for Children In Need. Pizzas, samosas and cakes will be on sale at the end of the day. In addition, a limited number of Year 5 pupils will be staying over for a sleepover and other fun activities in the hall. There are a few spaces still remaining. Please let the office have your child’s name by Thursday if you are interested.
 
Please help us beat our record of £3000 from last year. We will also be doing a ‘money trail’ and children are invited to bring in any loose change that you can spare. The class that raises the highest amount will receive a prize. Year groups will also be running activities over the following week, please support them and give generously.

Paperless Newsletter We have now stopped sending paper copies out. Please remember, if you still want a paper copy of the newsletter, you may collect one from the school office. The newsletter will be on the school website by the end of each Wednesday.
 
Sibling Photographs All children should be in full school uniform for the photographs on the 17th November. This is for children where there is more than 1 child at the school.
 
Reporting Absences Parents, please remember that you can report your child’s absence by text message to 07860004994. Please note this number is only used for reporting absences and not to be used for general messages. Absences must be reported on the morning of the first day of absence. In some cases we will request medical evidence if the absence is lengthy or too frequent.
 
I would like to remind parents that if your child has 12 sessions of unauthorised absence recorded throughout the half term period, the Local Authority will issue you with a penalty notice.
 
All holidays during term time, also lead to a fine of £120 per child per parent.

YEAR 3 Diwali Assembly There will be a performance for Year 3 parents on 6th November at 2.15pm in the main hall. I do hope that you will be able to join us.

Colour Assemblies will be cancelled this week, as the hall is being used for the Year 3 Diwali Performance.
 
Poppies for sale Once again as a lead up to Remembrance Day next week, poppies will be on sale each day. Children are invited to bring in donations for a poppy.

Sensible Shoes/Coats Now that autumn has truly set in, please ensure that your child brings a coat to school every day, as all children do go out for play and lunchtimes daily. Please also ensure that sensible shoes or trainers are worn to school.
 
Paperless Newsletter/Homework As mentioned previously, we will stop sending paper copies out after half term, (from November). Please remember, if you still want a paper copy of the newsletter, you may collect one from the school office.

School Dinner Reminder Can I urge all parents to pay their child’s outstanding dinner money arrears by the end of this week. Also may I remind you that all dinner money from next half term needs to pay in advance, before your child has a school meal. Payments are £2 per day or £10 per week. 
It is parents/carers responsibility to clearly mark dinner money with child’s name, class and amount they are sending into school in a sealed envelope.
