Newsletter No.32 21st May 2014


A Headteachers Award was received by Yusuf Shah (1Y) and Ghathunaa Athavan.
Writer of the week awards were received by: Viria Quifica Da Silva, Dada Osman, Anandveer Singh Johal, Taibah Khan, Talha Sheikh, Layla Khan-Ringhsaw, Umar Choudhury, Justin Charlery-Erskine, Qasim Hafeez, Shanelle Lewis and Maryam Ali.
Mathelete’ awards were received by: Tahmid Kawser, Faiza Shakeel, Sana Naushad, Kimranjeet Shokar, Rajvir Singh Paul, Jannat Gol, Danial Mahmud, Laura Gubanova, Ria Bhalla, Tyrece Williams and Aleeza Khawaja. 
Gold Awards were received by David Chiriacescu, Aira Mariathas, Deva Nandan Cherukat, Alvina Farrukh and Aliyah Begum.

Year 6 SATs Last week our Year 6 children had a very busy and intense week, undertaking the national tests for all 10/11 year olds. As Headteacher, I was impressed with their attitudes. The results will be out in early July.
INSET Day Please remember that the school will be closed on Friday 23rd May for a staff training day. The school will be closed for half-term from 26th-30th May and will re-open to pupils on 2nd June.
Last Day of The Year The last day of school is Wednesday 23rd July and we will finishing at 2pm. No after school clubs will be running that afternoon.
Change of date for Year 6 Performance The Year 6 performance will now take place on 9th July. This is due to many of the Year 6 children attending their secondary school transfer day on 3rd and now 8th July.
Colour Assemblies Colour assemblies will be running as usual on Thursday.

Attendance Well done to 6 Green and 6 Yellow for achieving 100%. Fantastic! The overall percentage for the whole school was 97.6%, which is an improvement on last week’s percentage of 96.5%. Excellent!
Biker’s Breakfast We had a great response to this event. Well done to all who participated.
Safety The school crossing patrol has reported that some children who are riding a bicycle to school are not obeying basic road safety. Parents, please ensure that your child disembarks from their bike when crossing a road.  
KS1 Owl Photographs The last day for purchasing your child’s photograph is Thursday 22nd May. Any late payments will incur an additional fee of £3.
CFA Summer Fair The CFA are busy planning this year's Summer Fair which will be on Thursday 19th June, 3:30 - 5pm.will be a traditional English summer fair with, games, lots of food, face painting, henna, tattoos, a raffle and much, much more. This is a free, unticketed which will be held in the playground. We are asking for each family to donate some food/drink for this as follows:
 
Reception and Nursery - individual cartons or bottles of soft drinks
Year 1 and 2 - chocolate (for the chocolate tombola)
Years 3 and 4 - small prizes eg. bouncy balls, pencils, bubbles or sweets (the kind of thing you can buy in the pound shop)
Year 5 - cupcakes
Year 6 - individual bags of crisps
 
If you have more than one child, we only ask for one donation per family.
Children are invited to donate £1 and come to school in dress or their own clothes on the day.
We have space for a few more private stalls and these can be booked by calling the school office and asking for Rahima.
If you have any donations for our raffle or could obtain a prize from a local business, please send prizes in labelled for the attention Rahima.

Warm Weather On warmer days, please use sun cream on your child and send them into school with a water bottle. It is important to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated in the warm weather.
 
Lost Property Please come and check the tubs, which are now overflowing with unclaimed items with no names. If items are not claimed by the end of this half-term (22nd May), we will be sending them to the charity shop.
English Course for Parents Parents and carers from all year groups are invited to take part in a 6 week English course at Cranbrook Primary School. The course will start on Friday 6th June and will run for 6 weeks until Friday 11th July from 9.30am – 11.30am. Parents will have the opportunity to understand how and what their children are learning in English lessons at school, develop new spelling strategies and gain a greater understanding of grammar and punctuation in order to support their children’s learning in the home. A certificate will be awarded to all participants and free refreshments will be provided. Unfortunately we are unable to provide a crèche on this occasion. If you would like to enrol then please phone 020 8518 2562 to put your name down on the waiting list or contact Beverley the school’s parent support adviser for further information.

A Headteachers Award was received by Adam Ahmad in Reception Yellow.
Congratulations to Shlok Verma in Reception Blue who came second in a recent chess competition.

CFA Summer Fair 19th June 3.30-5pm Don’t forget to put this date in your diary. We hope to have a great turnout for this fun community event. Following a meeting this morning with our core members, planning for the Summer Fair is well underway. So, watch this space for more information on this fantastic event!

Biker’s Breakfast We are keen to encourage our children to cycle or scoot to school and all children who do so on Monday 19th May, are invited to come along to the Small Hall from 8.15 onwards for a biker's breakfast. Please leave your bike or scooter in the gym area in the playground and join us for breakfast.
Colour Assemblies Colour assemblies will be running as usual on Thursday.

Animal Magic On 2nd May, Years 1 and 2 met some nocturnal animals from the ’Animal Magic’ company. The children asked lots of questions and enjoyed getting closer to the animals than they would usually!
 
Owls Last week, Years 1, 2 and 3 were lucky enough to receive a visit from some owls. They learned some interesting facts about owls in an information assembly. Reception classes and Years 1 and 2 had the opportunity to take photographs with an owl.

FACE Painting Workshop We are holding a face painted workshop on Thursday 5th June at 1.45pm (to 3pm). Parents/volunteers with an artistic flair are invited to learn the basic skills of face painting. This is an exciting opportunity to learn some valuable tips and techniques in the trade. Furthermore, this will hopefully give you the experience to join us in the Summer Fair to use these skills as a face painter. Certificates will be awarded to participants.

All of Year 6 were awarded writer of the week awards and ‘mathelete’ for their great learning behaviour towards their SATs.

Recent Inspection Report Please take time to read the summary report following our recent inspection (accompanied with this newsletter). The report recognises the school’s strengths and areas for improvement. We are currently reviewing our School Improvement Priorities and will be responding to the points raised in order to continue developing our provision on our journey to ‘Outstanding’.
Parent View As a school team, we are also very keen to have parent feedback on what we do well and where we need to improve. I would therefore urge you all to go online and input your feedback on the Ofsted ‘parent view’ link for Cranbrook. Please check that you have the correct address, as there are a number of schools across the country with the same name.
Nursery Admissions for September 2014 If you have applied for a place for your child at the school, you should receive a letter today confirming this, if your application has been successful.
CFA Summer Fair 19th June 3.30-5pm We had a great turnout at the core group meeting yesterday morning and have started to plan our Summer Fair. The next planning meeting will be taking place at the school on Wednesday 21st May at 9am.

Year 6 SATs I would remind all year 6 parents to ensure that their child attends regularly and promptly as the tests will be carried out next week. Please note if your child is not in school, you will receive a call and be asked to bring him/her in. Children must be in school for these national tests.

Glasbury—Year 6 Residential Trip If you were unable to attend the meeting this morning and your child is attending Glasbury, please speak to the classteacher for further information. Please also remember that the children will be leaving at 12pm on Sunday 1st June from the main car park. If you have any queries regarding this trip, contact Devinder in the school office.
