TEACHER STRIKE 26TH MARCH As indicated in the previous newsletters, the school WILL BE CLOSED TOMORROW, as there are a high number of teachers taking action. Please make any necessary childcare arrangements. I hope this does not cause too much inconvenience.
Colour Assemblies There will be no colour assemblies running on 27th March or 3rd April. They will resume as usual after the Spring break on 24th April.
Lost Property Once again we have a high number of items with no names on in the lost property. These are usually located in the playground at the beginning and end of each day. Please take a look in there if your child has lost any items of clothing.
CFA Diversity Event on 3rd April 3.15-4.45pm Please remember that no ticket purchasing is required for this event. We are aiming to raise at least £3000 to be matched by Barclays for installing an outdoor climbing frame for the children’s use at lunch and playtimes. Please come and support this event. We will be holding a talent show and there will be lots of food to purchase, a raffle, henna, face painting and a variety of private stalls. If each parent spends £4 only, we will meet our target amount. If you are available to help on Tuesday 1st April at 1.30pm and anytime on Thursday 3rd April, please contact Amanda or Beverley via the school office.
We are asking for each family to donate some food or drink for the event as follows:    
Nursery/Reception - Easter eggs                             
Year 1 - Fairy cakes                                               
Year 2 - Fruit/fruit salad/fruit juice                            
Year 3 - Bottles or cartons of soft drink                                                      
Year 4 - Caribbean food                                         
Year 5 - Cultural food                                            
Year 6—Soft drinks or crisps
If you have more than one child, we only ask for one donation. Children are also invited to bring in £1 if they come into school in non-uniform.
Raffle tickets will be on sale in the playground before and after school from Monday. We have some fabulous prizes including nail vouchers, restaurant vouchers, baskets of flowers, Wilkinsons vouchers and sweet baskets.
Easter eggs, crisps and bottles of drink should be sent into school on Monday 31st March. All fresh food should be sent in on 3rd April by midday if possible.

Easter Holiday Courses in Redbridge In addition to running a range of cycle training and cycle skills courses within schools during term-time Cycle Experience is now offering more children in Redbridge the opportunity to learn how to cycle and to cycle safely on road and elsewhere through its Easter holiday course programme. Congratulations to the school football team who won the ‘local derby’ against Highlands Primary School 5-2. Jourdain Jhagroo-Bryan in Year 6 Yellow scored 4 goals and Emre Ozuaciksoz from Year 5 Red scored the other. A brilliant performance!

CFA Diversity Event on 3rd April 3.15-4.45pm Auditions for the talent show are underway. We are still in need of helpers, so if you are available, please can you contact Amanda Irons on 020 8518 2562. If you are interested in booking a stall for the afternoon, please contact Rahima via the school office.
All committee members and helpers are welcome to attend a short planning meeting on Monday 24th March at 2pm. All money raised will go towards an exciting climbing frame for the outdoor area.
A Reminder We have received numerous reports that adults are spitting in the school grounds. Please refrain from doing this.

Albert Hall A group of our children represented the school at the bi-annual Redbridge Choral Festival at the Albert Hall. This was a truly amazing            experience, with all Redbridge School choirs participating. I would like to thank Claire Frith, who organised this event and Kelly, Suntosh and Sonal who supported her. Well done to the following pupils for representing the school: Soumya Agrawal, Sindy Mikulecka, Anita Bushati, Ritika Bisht, Sabha Chaudhary, Chloe Carney, Manpreet Multani, Iram Lodhi, Riddhi Gadhvi, Janvi Parekh, Gursimran Kaur and Sana Hussain. Well done to all! Thanks also to the parents for supporting this event.
School Assessment of Teaching and Learning On the 27th and 28th March, we will be assessed for the Quality of Teaching and Learning by three external assessors, who will observe all classes and talk to pupils about their learning experiences at the school and their reading skills.
This assessment forms part of the school’s approach to its own self-evaluation and should inform all parents, pupils, governors and staff about our areas of strength and areas for development towards our journey to becoming an outstanding school.
A report will be published soon after.

Teachers’ Strike The National Union of Teachers has organised a strike on 26th March, which may be called off. If this is the case, the school will open as usual. However, if the strike takes place, we may need to close because of the high number of teachers who will be out. An update will be provided next week.
Year 4 Performance Year 4 parents are invited to the performance of “Anansi and the moss covered rock” on Thursday 6th March at 2pm. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Attendance Well done to classes 5 Yellow and 6 Green for both achieving 99.6%. Fantastic! The overall percentage for the whole school was 96%. However, our average for the year still remains below the National average of 95.6%, at 94.9%. This would be judged by OFSTED as inadequate. Therefore, I urge all parents to support us with this.
World Book Day As mentioned in the group call last week, to celebrate World Book Day, children are invited to come into school dressed as their favourite book character on Friday 7th March.
Car Park I have received reports that some parents are intimidating and abusing each other in the car park. Once again, I would remind both pedestrians and drivers to be aware and respect each other. 
School Crossing Patrol I am pleased to inform you that the Local Authority have employed Jaqueline Higgins as the new School Crossing Patrol for the school. She is due to begin on Tuesday 11th March 2014.

E-Safety We would like to remind parents to make sure they monitor the content of games, websites and apps that the children are downloading from the internet. It is important to keep a check on what your children are doing online. The ‘Think u Know’ (www.thinkuknow.co.uk) website is a great resource to get you up to speed and also has tools to help you create a safe environment.
SATs Week Year 6 parents, please note that SATs will take place from Monday 12th to 16th May. Absences for Year 6 pupils will not be authorised unless medical evidence is provided or exceptional circumstances apply. Therefore, please make every effort to bring your child to school on time.

Year 1 Phonics Workshop It was good to see a number of parents at the session this morning. Well done to Clare Burch for organising and running this event. I hope you found it useful.

CFA Diversity Celebration Event We are all looking forward to the Diversity Celebration on Thursday 3rd April. If you are able to help us with this event, please let the School Office have your name, contact number and the times you are able to help on the day. Further details on this event will follow next week.
Temporary Swimming Pool at Wanstead Have you heard about the Borough’s pop up pool? It is located on Redbridge Lane West by the High School/Leisure Centre and is open until 3rd April. As a school, we are very lucky that all of our Year 5 classes are having lessons at this pool. Public lessons are available from 4.30-7pm weekdays and Saturday from 9am-1pm. Sessions cost £2 and should be booked online at www.makeasplashlondon.org.
