12th January 2011 Newsletter No.41

It was lovely to see the children return to school enthusiastic and energetic as always last week. We have a busy term ahead and continue to focus on our priorities for the year to raise standards:

1) Improve reading and writing learning outcomes for pupils
2) Work in close partnership with parents and the community to enhance the children’s enjoyment at school
3) Support staff in using assessment outcomes to target teaching and learning
4) Develop the role of middle leaders to enhance the children’s learning experience and build strong partnerships
5) Offer an exciting, relevant and creative curriculum, which has core basic skills at its heart

Information Sessions Please remember the Information Sessions for the following:
Reception will take place on Thursday 13th January at 9.00am until 9.30am

Open School I would like to invite all parents and carers to walk through the school and look at your child’s class books on Wednesday 26th January between 3.30 and 4.15pm. Please note that this is, once again, an opportunity for the children to show their books to their parents, rather than a meeting with the class teacher.

Parent Questionnaire On this occasion, we will also have parent questionnaires available for you to complete, as we are keen to gather your views on the schools strengths and areas for development.

Free Coffee Morning We would like to invite all of our parents and carers along to a free coffee morning on Tuesday 18th January from 9am-10am in the small hall. There will be free refreshments, free beauty treatments, free henna and a free raffle. Parents can relax, socialise and meet other parents as well as finding out about future courses and events happening in school. We would also like you to tell us what you would like to see happening at Cranbrook School for parents. Under fives are welcome, so please feel free to come along and have a cuppa on us. We look forward to seeing you there!

Football 1st There are now two Football 1st Clubs. Years 1 and 2 will take place on Fridays as normal and a new session on Wednesdays for Years 3 and 4 (this is a correction from the leaflet handed out). If you are interested please see the Office or call Anna on 07834 386814.

MEND programme There are still places available on the January MEND programme for ‘kids to become fitter, healthier and happier!’ If you have children between 8 to 13 years old and are worried they may be unhealthy or even overweight, call Alex Bland on 0844 406 9000 ext 7395 for details to join the programme.

Late collection of Children During the week 4th January to 7th January 2011, a total of 30 children were collected as late as 4.12pm at the end of the school day. Over the following weeks we will be closely monitoring this situation. Persistent lateness in collecting your child from school may result in a referral to the Education Welfare Services and a charge for providing childcare. Some parents are taking advantage and expecting school staff to be late for their own children. This is clearly not acceptable.

Contacting the School Please note that the school office is open from 8am to 5pm, with a break for office staff at 10-11am and 1.30-2.30pm.

Children in cars It has come to our attention that some parents are leaving small children in cars in the car park whilst they collect children from school. This is clearly unsafe. Please ensure you take your children with you.

Yours faithfully

Jas Leverton
Head teacher
