Games before School Please make sure that children do not play any games with balls, skipping ropes, hoola hoops etc, before school as we have had a number of injuries, some resulting in visits to hospital.
Punctuality The school gates are locked promptly at 9.05am each day, so please make sure that if your children are late, they are taken to the school office to be registered, as we cannot take the risk of any children being in school and not registered.
Late collection of Children During the week 7th to 11th February, a total of 35 children were collected as late as 4.37pm at the end of the school day. If your child is collected late, you must ensure you sign them out in the late book at the main office. Over the following weeks we will be closely monitoring this situation. Persistent lateness in collecting your child from school may result in a referral to the Education Welfare Services.
Book Fair World Book Day is taking place on 3rd March. Each child will receive from their class teacher a token which entitles them to £1 off any book over £2.99 either at our Book Fair or at any participating shops. Please come along to our Book Fair which is taking place on Friday 4th March until Wednesday 9th March after school in the Small Hall. The children have had a preview of the books which are available to buy. Do come along – the children are very excited about our Book Fair! Every book you buy helps to buy books for the school. Thank you for all your support so far.

Information on Safer Internet Day, 8th Feb 2011
8th Annual Safer Internet Day focusing on enjoying gaming safely.Safer Internet Day, now in its 8th year, is celebrated in over 65 countries and it is an opportunity to recognise the importance of the Internet in the lives of children and young people, and to help work to ensure that they and those that support children, parents, carers, grandparents, teachers, know how to get the most out of this resource and use it safely and responsibly. The focus this year, particularly in the UK is on games and gaming, as well as communicating the wider message that online actions can have offline consequences, both now and in the future. Research shows that games are enormously popular with children, with 86% of 9-16s using the internet to play games, and in terms of online activity for young people it comes second only to school work.
The top messages for the day for the various user groups to take away are that games are fun - indeed the first words that come into children’s heads when talking about games are, ‘friends, free, fun, competitive, multiplayer and chatting to friends – but to remember that internet safety messages and advice apply to games as well as other online activities, and there are tools available to help.

PTA Family Quiz Night Reminder This is tonight at 6.15-8pm. Why not come along and have some fun, bring drinks and nibbles?
Staffing Update I am sure you have noticed that we have some teachers who will be going on maternity leave later this year. Saffiyah will be starting her leave on 28th February. 1G will be covered by Mursheda for the remainder of the year. Caroline and Julia will be starting their leaves after Easter. I am currently in the process of arranging their cover. Junaida will not be here for the remainder of this year as she has been seconded to another school as deputy headteacher. She will return to her duties here in September 2011. I am sure you will all join me in wishing them all well.
Attendance The class with the highest percentage was Year 2 Green with 99.3%. Well done Year 2 Green! The overall percentage for the whole school was 95.1%. I would also like to remind you that children who are taken out of school for holidays during term time will be removed from the school roll.
Coffee Morning We had a fantastic turnout and would like to thank all the parents who came along to our first coffee morning on Tuesday. Those who managed to have a head massage and/or facial thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a great atmosphere and we are planning to make parents’ coffee mornings a regular event. We would especially like to thank two of our parents who offered free beauty treatments on the day. Paula Constantinou offered free head massages and Rubila Amjad offered free mini facials, both parents helped to make the event a real success and their kindness and generosity are much appreciated.
Next PTA Meeting The next PTA meeting is this Friday (21st January) at 9.30am

We would especially like to thank two of our parents who offered free beauty treatments on the day. Paula Constantinou offered free head massages and Rubila Amjad offered free mini facials, both parents helped to make the event a real success and their kindness and generosity are much appreciated.
Next PTA Meeting The next PTA meeting is this Friday (21st January) at 9.30am
Money Management Course for Parents We will be hosting a free 2 day Money management course for parents. If you would like to find out how to manage your money, stop overspending, reduce your debts and learn to budget as well as where to get help, then this may be the course for you. The course will be held on Tuesday 1st February and Wednesday 2nd February from 9am – 10.30am. Free refreshments will be provided and an attendance certificate awarded; however there will be no crèche available on this occasion. If you would like to reserve a place, please phone the school office on 0208 518 2562 or pop in to put your name down on the waiting list.
Year 3 and 4 Football 1st Club Children in Years 3 and 4 were offered an additional football club on a Monday and Wednesday after school. Unfortunately, due to a very low take up we are not able to continue with these. However, if you wish your child to attend the Football First session on a Friday please contact Anna on 07834 386 814 to get the details of costs and times. We will review this again for the summer term to look at offering additional football clubs in the better weather!
Open School I would like to invite all parents and carers to walk through the school and look at your child’s class books on Wednesday 26th January between 3.30 and 4.15pm. Please note that this is, once again, an opportunity for the children to show their books to their parents, rather than a meeting with the class teacher.
Parent Questionnaire On this occasion, we will also have parent questionnaires available for you to complete, as we are keen to gather your views on the schools strengths and areas for development.
Late collection of Children Recently some children were collected as late as 4.12pm at the end of the school day. Over the following weeks we will be closely monitoring this situation. Persistent lateness in collecting your child from school may result in a referral to the Education Welfare Services and a charge for providing childcare. Some parents are taking advantage and expecting school staff to be late for their own children and provide free childcare. This is clearly not acceptable.
Security/Safety I would ask all parents to support us by only using identified doors – i.e. main door. Parents should not enter the building without permission, as we cannot monitor who is on site. If you do need to, please let a staff member know, and they will be happy to escort you.

1) Improve reading and writing learning outcomes for pupils
2) Work in close partnership with parents and the community to enhance the children’s enjoyment at school
3) Support staff in using assessment outcomes to target teaching and learning
4) Develop the role of middle leaders to enhance the children’s learning experience and build strong partnerships
5) Offer an exciting, relevant and creative curriculum, which has core basic skills at its heart

Contacting the School Please note that the school office is open from 8am to 5pm, with a break for office staff at 10-11am and 1.30-2.30pm.
Children in cars It has come to our attention that some parents are leaving small children in cars in the car park whilst they collect children from school. This is clearly unsafe. Please ensure you take your children with you.
Yours faithfully

I would like to welcome back all of our children, parents and staff and wish everyone a Happy New Year. I do hope that your time at home was enjoyable and restful.
Some things we need to work on this term:
Uniform/Jewellery I would remind you that it is school policy that all children wear uniform every day unless it is an agreed non-uniform day. If headscarves are worn they should be plain black or white and no jewellery should be worn except for religious observance.
Attendance A high number of children are still being taken out of school for holidays during term time and also many children arriving late on a regular basis. It is very important children attend school every day and that any absence is reported to the School Office. Please note that as we have waiting lists in most year groups, persistent absentees may be taken off the school roll.
