Strike Action by GMB, Unison and Unite on Tuesday 14th October 2014 As conveyed in the group call yesterday, these three unions are calling their members out on strike on Tuesday 14th October. Approximately 30 members of staff will therefore be out for the day, which will affect the work of the school. Having considered the risks, I have decided to close the Nursery for the day, so that we can manage to remain open for the remainder of the school. I would ask for your support on the day by ensuring that any queries for the school office are left until Wednesday, as the office team will be very short of staff.

Urgent It has come to my notice that some families who have moved house over the summer holiday have not informed the school office of their new contact details. It is absolutely imperative that we are informed, so that in an emergency, if your child is sick, we can make contact. Therefore, if you have changed address or your telephone numbers, please provide the new information to the office without delay.

Unauthorised Absence I would like to remind parents that if your child has 12 sessions of unauthorised absence through late arrivals recorded throughout the academic year, the Local Authority will issue you with a penalty notice. Penalty notices will also be issued in the first instance for leave of absence taken without permission of the Head teacher. The notice incurs a fine of £120 per parent per child, which is reduced to £60 per parent per child, if it is paid within 21 days. A parent from this school was fined £370 at Barkingside Magistrates Court for their child taking 12 sessions of unauthorised absence last year.

Eid Assembly Year 5 parents are invited to watch the Eid performance tomorrow at 2.15pm.

INSET Day School will be closed on Monday 3rd November for staff training. The school will be open to pupils as usual on Tuesday 4th November.

Secondary Transition Workshop for Y6 Parents We had a good turnout for the workshop on Tuesday. I hope that those who attended found the session helpful. All online application forms should be submitted by Friday 31st October 2014.

Year 5 Children In Need Sleepover on Friday 13th November Once again in our aim to raise money for this charity on 14th November we will have a non-uniform day, when children can come in ‘hero’ costumes and donate £1 towards the fund.
We will also have pizzas, samosas and cakes for sale after school. In addition, we will also hold an overnight sleepover for 30 Year 5 pupils on a first come first served basis. The cost of this provision will be £15. If you are interested, please go to the school office to reserve a place for your child, so that we can provide you with further information with a follow up letter.

Emissaries Congratulations to the Year 5 children who have been selected for the prominent role of Emissary for the academic year 2014 - 2015. They will be:

Making School Dinner Choices Parents please help us by helping your child decide what he/she would like to have for a school lunch each day. Please follow the link below for instructions on how to do this:
https://host.cypad.net/ISSEducationRedbridge/Documents/parentsguidetoolonlinepayments.pdf
You can only choose this option if you already have an account with ISS. Please follow the link below to create an account:
www.feedinghungryminds.com.uk
This will enable you to pay for the meals online and select your child’s meal choice the night before your child’s want a school dinner not on the day.
The school lunch menu is available to view on the school website at www.cranbrookprimary.redbridge.sch.uk.

Paperless Newsletter/Homework As mentioned previously, we will stop sending paper copies out after half term, (from November). Please remember, if you still want a paper copy of the newsletter, you may collect one from the school office, and that you can print the homework if necessary.

Lost Coat A parent has reported that their child’s khaki parka coat has been lost at school. However, despite searching, we have not been able to locate it. Please can ensure your child’s coat is clearly labelled so that they can be easily identified and check that your child has not taken the wrong coat.

Lost Books It has come to my attention that many of the books sent home from the school for reading are not being returned. The school is therefore losing a great deal of money and much needed resources. Please have a look at home and return any books that you find. Please also note that we have no choice, but to charge £4 per every missing book.
