Newsletter No. 16 7th January 2015


Welcome back everyone. A very happy new year to you all!

Headteachers award, was awarded to Khadijah Ibrahim in Reception Red, for her independent work on the computer.
 
School Values As always we have started the term by re-visiting our school values - Respect, Courage, Equality, Excellence, Determination, Friendship and Inspiration. I would ask all parents/ carers to reinforce these values with your children.
 
Class Information/ Parent Workshops Once again each Year group will be running these practical workshops, starting next Monday. The sessions will take place in the main hall and will be led by the Year Group Teaching Team from 9 - 9.30am. Please make every effort to attend. Dates and Year groups are as follows:

Attendance Well done to class Year 6 Yellow for achieving 97.4%. The overall percentage for the autumn term for the whole school was 94.6%.
 
I was very disappointed to note that our school attendance really declined towards the end of last term with many families travelling abroad. Please note, that if the absence is not authorised, or you have not applied for leave of absence before travelling, there will be a fine per child per parent. This will amount to £120 per child, if paid within 14 days, or £240 if paid after the 14 days are up.
 
Colour Assemblies: will be held on the 8th January 2015 at 9.10am

Mad Hatter’s Tea Party On the 15th January 2015, we are asking our children to join in and enjoy a healthy nutritious lunch. It will be a themed menu to coincide with the National Hat Day, appropriately being called ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’. Children will be handed out hat templates to design and create a ‘mad hat’. Templates will go into a prize draw, so get your thinking hats on! (no pun intended).
The lunch menu with reply slips will be sent out, please send in money and slips by the 9th January 2015.
 
The Happy Puzzle Company are returning to Cranbrook! This will be led by Mind Missions, who are hands on with Maths, thinking and team building expeditions. Please refer to the letters which have been sent home for additional information.

Dinner money arrears Parents are reminded that it is your responsibility to ensure all dinner arrears are paid promptly. Despite numerous reminders there are still parents who have not paid their child’s dinner arrears for last term. A Group Call to these parents will be sent out today. Please settle your child’s account by Thursday. Any Parent who does not pay will have to provide their child with a packed lunch.
 
School Crossing Due to the proposed bus strike next Tuesday 13th January, it may not be possible for our school patrol officer to attend the crossing by St. Georges Road. Please be mindful of this and make arrangements for your children.
 
Reception Admissions 2015 If your child’s birthday is between 1st September 2010 and 31st August 2011, you can now apply online for a primary school place by visiting the Redbridge website www.redbridge.gov.uk and use the link to eAdmissions. If you are not a Redbridge resident you will need to apply via your own Council (even for a Redbridge school). The deadline for online applications is Thursday 15th January 2015 at 11.59pm. Please note, you will only be allocated a place if your child meets the admissions criteria. Please read it carefully.
        
Clubs and After School Activities There are still places available for after school clubs. If you would like your child to attend any of the activities, please collect the relevant forms from the school office by the end of today. Please return forms by Thursday at the very latest, with the permission slip and correct payment in a sealed envelope, clearly marked with the child’s name, class and the name of the club.
 
Fundraising for the Brain Appeal We are supporting this appeal and would ask if you have any unwanted gifts at home, to please bring them into the school office  to go towards a sale on Thursday 29th January from 3.30 to 4pm. We will also be having a raffle and some food for sale, so please come along!
All proceeds go to The Brain Appeal. Raffle tickets will be priced £1 a strip.

Headteachers award, was awarded to, Yusuf Shah (2Yellow) for excellent use of grammar in his writing. Also class Reception Yellow for their excellent effort.
Gold Award was awarded to Dharam Singh and congratulations to Riaz Jilani who received his 10th gold award, the only child ever to do so! Well done, Riaz!
 
CFA Movie Night was a huge success. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff and volunteers who helped with the event. We raised approximately £2000 for developing the play areas for the children. Look out for the CFA Newsletter, which will come out in early January.
 
Poppy Appeal The Royal British Legion would like to thank Cranbrook Primary School for raising a total of £244.43. Thanks to everyone who supported us.

Pakistan Tragedy I am sure, like me, you have all been moved by the awful news from Pakistan. At this time, I would ask all the community to come together to show compassion and to appreciate all that we take for granted. We will aim to do some fund raising in the New Year following further clarification.

Cranbrook Calendars The Calendars will on be sale in the playground this week. There are a limited number of Calendars, so to avoid disappointment, buy early. They will be on sale for £6, or two for £10.
 
Coats, Hats, Scarves and Gloves Please ensure your child is suitably dressed for the cold weather, as all children will go out for playtimes and lunchtimes daily. Please ensure all items of clothing are labelled with the child’s name and class.
 
School Website I would encourage all Parents/Carers to visit the school website regularly to read and note new updates and information. It is full of key information.

Cranbrook Calendars All year groups participated in a competition for their design to feature on the Cranbrook Calendar. Well done to Luckrecija, Yasmine, Ria, Tania, Tonisha, Aliya, Fatima, Mikayla, Alisha, Musa, Mariyam and Soumya!
Order forms are available from the office. The calendars will on sale, in the small hall this week and next, Wednesdays to Friday. There are a limited number of Calendars, so to avoid disappointment, buy early. They will be on sale for £6, or two for £10.
 
CFA Movie Night Will be on Thursday 11th December. For those who have sent the money and permission slips in, the films will start at 3pm and all children attending will be handed over to parents at their usual place at 5pm. As it will dark by then, please be prompt to collect your child. The children will be provided with pizza, chips and a drink.
Those children who are not participating in the Movie Night Event, dismissal will be normal.

Redbridge Food Bank are appealing for donations leading up to the Christmas period. We would like to support this cause by asking for contribution of the following: tinned food, teabags, coffee, cereals, toiletries, nappies, biscuits, and non-perishable Christmas treats such as children’s selection boxes. We ask all donations to be brought into school by the Tuesday 16th December. Thank you for your co-operation.
 
Late Gate I would like to remind you that any children not collected from the late gate by 3.45pm will be taken to the After School Club. Parents and Carers should then collect their child from the Club via the main playground. There will be a £6 fee per child. We cannot provide free child care after this time as our duty of care ends at 3.30pm.
 
Literacy Course for Parents Parent’s and carers are invited to take part in a 6 week Literacy course at Cranbrook Primary School. The course will start on Friday 9th January 2015 and will run for 6 weeks until Friday 13th February from 9am – 11am. Parents will have the opportunity to understand how and what their children are learning in English lessons at school, gain a greater understanding of grammar and punctuation in order to support their children’s learning in the home and discover new spelling strategies to build confidence. If you would like to enrol then please telephone 020 8518 2562.
