Emissaries Here is the latest exciting instalment from our emissaries telling us what has been happening in school this past week:

“This week was absolutely great! Especially on 5th October. Two men from Speedmark made us shoot in colossal goals!!”. Chukwudi Appah-Okwuone (6G)

“This week the school held a small activity. The activity was based on Speedmark. All the pupils had to participate in this activity. Whoever kicked the ball the fastest and scored the highest would win. A girl and boy from each class won the challenge. Everybody enjoyed it!!”. Mariam Ghaloo (5G)

In line with Local Authority guidelines, please note that no holidays will be granted during term time. The Local Authority penalty for taking a child out of school during term time has risen to £60 (if paid within 30 days).

A Reminder Could you ensure that your children keep off the grass mounds on either side of the Pavilion (the area is signposted). Last week a child was kicking the “keep off the grass sign” without their parents being aware. Please supervise your children to ensure that they are safe at this busy time.

School Council As reported in our newsletter last week, the following children were elected by their classmates to be representatives on the school council: Rayaan Ali (5R), Mariam Cajee (5R), Hajra Cajee (6G), Esa Abdullah (6G), Joana Aukstuolyte (6R) and Denis-Florin Heitei (6R).

Congratulations to all of the children!

Speedmark Goal Scoring Challenge All sponsor money for the challenge needs to be brought in by Friday. Once the amounts have been checked and processed, prizes will be handed out to the children.

Sensory Garden Work on our sensory garden starts this week. Thank you to all those who have supported school fundraising events over the last year, which have allowed us to start the project. The children will be soon enjoying a newly developed space and the chickens will return.

Parking There are still parents who are parking and driving in a dangerous manner in the car park, putting other motorists and pedestrians at risk. Please take the time to plan your journey and respect others around you so that you do not endanger the lives of others and yourselves.

Boot Sale The boot sale scheduled for 13th October has been cancelled. Another sale will be organised for the spring term.

Free Family Cycle Sessions In response to requests for family cycle sessions, the Road Safety Team at the Local Authority have arranged for free sessions to take place weekly from 20th October (5 sessions) at the school. If you are interested please call 0845 434 8451 or contact www.cycleexperience.com/redbridge.

Medication Despite repeated contact by the school, some parents still have not brought in their child’s epi-pens or medication that is needed as stated on each individual care plan. Please bring them in as a matter of urgency

School Travel Plan I am delighted to inform you that we are now a Higher Standards Level accredited school for our School Travel Plan. We have achieved a 4% increase in the number of children walking to school and a 2% reduction in the number of car journeys to the school. Well done everyone!
The children enjoyed many activities last year including the mountain bike display, walking club and also produced some fantastic work in class on travel. We have lots more exciting events planned this year.

Walk Once A Week (WOW) Scheme
Yesterday, the children enjoyed an assembly led by the Travel and Road Safety Team and enjoyed meeting Zippy the Zebra. Please encourage your children to walk to school once a week to earn their WOW badges. If you usually drive your child to school, please consider parking a few roads away from the school and walking once a week (come and have a look at our Park and Stride Map in reception). Each month, the winning class in each key stage will receive a trophy. The winners for September were 2 Red who had 19 walkers and 4 Yellow who had 25 walkers. Well done!!
Next week is International Walk to School Week and we are running an A-Z hunt competition. The children will be given a worksheet to fill in the A-Z words that they see on their way to school.
