Newsletter No35 18th June 2014

As we come to the final weeks of this academic year, I would encourage you to take note of the key dates overleaf, so that you do not miss any of the exciting and fun end of year events.
It is also important to remember that although the end of the school year is nigh, we must still focus on our School Values - Respect, Courage, Friendship, Equality, Determination, Inspiration and Excellence.
I would ask for your support in reinforcing these with your children, as well as ensuring that your child comes to school in uniform.

Congratulations to Zahra Ahmed, Talha Hassan  Nabiha Naziha, San Aiden Singh, Qasim Javaid, Faraz Jahangir, Yana Puddoo, Aaminah Zaman, Arfa Razzaq, Sana Naushad, Junaid-Ur Rahman, Maha Folad, Saad Khan, Jamaal Mamsa, Anisa Choudhury, Aliya Patel, Huzarifa  Hamid, Ismail Patel, Ishaaq Ahmed who all received a gold merit. Well done to you all.

CFA Summer Fair, This Thursday 3.15pm—5pm
We have sold hundreds of tokens for the Games Stalls, so that you can use them instead of money on Thursday. Please note that although tokens will be on sale at the fair, queues will be very long, so I would encourage you to get them in advance. Raffles tickets will also be on sale before and after school—50p each or a strip of 5 for £2. Please also note, there is no entrance fee.
All classes will be dismissed promptly at 3.10pm so that teachers can help on the stalls. Please note Year 6 will be dismissed from the gate by the changing room, to ease the congestion that is likely to occur. I would ask Year 6 parents to wait by that gate on the pavement in the car park. Please remember you will still need cash for the food and private stalls. We will have a wide range of items available.
We are aiming to raise money to purchase more outdoor gym equipment for the children’s use. Do come along and join this fun, community event.

We are very pleased with the outcome of the recent Happy Puzzle event in the school. Our children had a fantastically fun and challenging time, solving a variety of puzzles. Children relished the opportunity to extend and develop their logic and reasoning skills. Well done to all who took part.
Parent Questionnaires
Please provide us feedback by going to the school website and completing the on-line questionnaire. Your feedback is very important to us.
Universal Free School Meals As you know, all children under the age of 7 years will be provided with a school meal every day from September 2014. However, families on low income, who are eligible for free school meals, still need to apply for their eligibility, so that the school does not lose out on essential funding. This is very important as this money is used to provide support to children. We will be able to provide support in school for those who need help with their on-line application.
In order to prepare ahead for this major operational change from September, from next week, we will begin feeding all Reception children in the Small Hall. We will also be running a Free Trial Day on Tuesday 1st July 2014, when all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, will have a free school meal. This is to enable us to address any issues arising ahead of September 2014.
A letter with more information will follow shortly.

Violin Tuition For Years 2—6 There are a few spaces left for Violin Lessons which take place every Tuesday. Children have lessons with the Violin Teacher during school hours. If you would like your child to take part from September 2014, please contact the office. The amount payable is £35.00 per term.

IT Workshop Cranbrook is hosting an IT workshop on 23th June from 9.30am-11am. If you would like help to set up an email account, download free apps, finding out about how to keep track of what your child is looking at on the internet, set up parental controls and understand privacy settings. Please come along. Refreshments will be provided and certificates and goody bags will be awarded. To reserve a place or to find out more, please contact Beverley on 0208 518 2562.

Crossing The Road I am sad to hear that a number of parents are not helping their children across the road in an appropriate manner. Those children who come to school on their bikes must get off their bikes to cross the road where the crossing lady is positioned. Some children are crossing the road on the bikes almost causing serious accidents. Please could you take extra care and make sure the children come off their bikes when crossing the road.

Colour Assemblies There will be no colour assemblies on 19th June or 26th June.

Sports Day— Tuesday 24th June
·         KS1 9.00am— 12pm
·         KS2: 1.30pm—3.00pm

All children need to wear suitable sports clothing; shorts, T-shirt, plimsolls/trainers.  Please apply sun cream to your child if the weather is warm. However if the weather is cooler please supply your child with jogging bottoms and a jumper. All children will also need to bring a water bottle with them to school.
