New Website Launch We are very pleased to launch our new website which has now gone live. The website offers information about various aspects of school life. Although in its infant stage we are continually developing the website further to enhance communication between home and school and provide useful links for you to access at home.
Parents Evening It was great to see such a high turnout and engage in many positive discussions with parents. We continue to value your feedback and were thrilled to hear how well the recent homework projects have gone. Late Collection of Children During the week of 14th March to 18th March, a total of 68 children were collected as late as 4.00pm at the end of the school day. If your child is collected late, you must ensure you sign them out in the late book as the main office. Over the following weeks we will be closely monitoring this situation. Dress-Up Day for Book Week This Friday (25th March) is Dress Up Day as your favourite book character, which coincides with our Book Week activities which the children have been enjoying in class. If you’re not able to dress up, then bring in some props or something relating to your favourite book/character.
Year 2 Trip This week year 2 went on a school trip to the Natural History Museum. They got to see moving dinosaurs, lots of animals and especially liked looking at rainforest creatures. The children had lots of fun and bought some exciting things from the gift shop
Eggciting News Our first Cranbrook chicks have hatched! Six eggs have successfully hatched and the Reception children have been busy taking care of them. The chicks have provided an amazing experience for the children (and staff!) and invaluable learning opportunities.
Packed Lunches We are having an increasing amount of packed lunches being dropped off during the course of the morning, please remember to give your child their packed lunch at the beginning of the day so that your children have their lunch at their allocated time.
Cranbrook Chronicle Caroline and Ian would like to thank all who supported the school by buying a copy of ‘The Cranbrook Chronicle’ produced by Year 5 pupils. The total amount raised for our vegetable garden was just over £130 which is much appreciated.

Punctuality I would like to begin by thanking all parents who regularly bring their children to school on time and daily. However, for those who don’t, please help us by ensuring that all children are in the playground by 8.50am each morning. As registers close at 9.05am, it is very important that children go in with their class line, so that they are entered in the register. At 9.05am promptly, all playground doors will be closed. After this time, all children need to be taken to the office for registration for health and safety reasons, so that there is a record of their arrival at school. In addition, the Education Welfare Officer will regularly monitor late arrivals and meet with parents who are persistently late. Please note you can be fined for being persistently late.

Year 5 Blue ‘Mum’s’ Portraits Artist Charmain French visited 5 Blue helping them to create portraits of their Mum. All (paintings) Portraits will be displayed on the third floor of the Exchange (Ilford) from Saturday 19th March – Friday 1st April. Please visit and admire their work.

Kenneth More Theatre Workshop The Kenneth More Theatre is holding a school holiday workshop that will be taking place during April 2011. The ‘High School Musical’ Workshop is a 2 week long theatre skills school aimed at 8-16 year olds who are interested in the performing arts. The course is running from Monday 11th – Friday 22nd April. If you are interested please collect a leaflet from the school lobby.
Private Tutors I would like to remind parents and carers that if they are looking to employ a private tutor for their child please remember there are important safety issues to take into consideration, such as making sure that the Tutors are enhanced CRB checked.
Red Nose Day Red Nose Day is on Friday 18th March, in order to raise money for Comic Relief all children are invited to come to school with ‘Bad Hair’ and donate £1 towards this worthy cause.
Tuesday Treats Following requests from the school council and a whole school assembly, it has been agreed that on Tuesdays, children can bring 1 treat in their packed lunch, such as chocolate or crisps. School Dinner children on Tuesday will be offered 1 treat for dessert.

First Aid For minor head injuries we will no longer be calling home, the children will be given a head injury sticker and a letter to go home. We will only call for injuries that are more significant and that we think you need to know immediately.

Do come along – the children are very excited about our Book Fair! Every book you buy helps to buy books for the school. Thank you for all your support so far.
Nursery Over the next few weeks we will begin offering places for children currently on our waiting list to start our Nursery in September. In order to be offered a place, your child must a) be on our waiting list and b) be 3 years old before 31st August 2011. If you would like to put your child on our Nursery waiting list you will need to come to the school office with your child’s Birth Certificate/Passport and 3 Utility Bills/Bank Statements to complete an application form. Please note that not all children on our waiting list will be offered a place as we have a limited number of places available.

Years 1 and 4 Performances The Year 1 performance is taking place this Friday 18th February at 2.15pm for parents, and we had our Year 4 performance this afternoon, which was enjoyed by all. Well done to all the children and staff who have contributed to make these such a success.

Attendance The class with the highest percentage was Year 3 Green with 100%, narrowly beating Year 1 Yellow with 99%! Well done Year3 Green! The overall percentage for the whole school was 95.1%.

Games before School Please make sure that children do not play any games with balls, skipping ropes, hoola hoops etc, before school as we have had a number of injuries, some resulting in visits to hospital.
Punctuality The school gates are locked promptly at 9.05am each day, so please make sure that if your children are late, they are taken to the school office to be registered, as we cannot take the risk of any children being in school and not registered.
Late collection of Children During the week 7th to 11th February, a total of 35 children were collected as late as 4.37pm at the end of the school day. If your child is collected late, you must ensure you sign them out in the late book at the main office. Over the following weeks we will be closely monitoring this situation. Persistent lateness in collecting your child from school may result in a referral to the Education Welfare Services.
Book Fair World Book Day is taking place on 3rd March. Each child will receive from their class teacher a token which entitles them to £1 off any book over £2.99 either at our Book Fair or at any participating shops. Please come along to our Book Fair which is taking place on Friday 4th March until Wednesday 9th March after school in the Small Hall. The children have had a preview of the books which are available to buy. Do come along – the children are very excited about our Book Fair! Every book you buy helps to buy books for the school. Thank you for all your support so far.

Maternity Leave As some of you will know, Safiyyah is due to have her baby soon and will be starting her maternity leave this Friday. I am sure you will join me in wishing her well.
As we come to the end of another half term I wish you all an enjoyable break and look forward to seeing you all back at school on Tuesday 1st March.

9th February 2011 Newsletter No 45
PTA Table top sale (Thursday 17th February 3.15 – 5.15) Do you have anything to sell? Do you have your own business? Then why not hire a table at the PTA table top sale (previously advertised as the art and craft fayre). This event will take place on Thursday 17th February from 3.15 – 5.15pm. For this event to go ahead we need your support so if you have food, clothes, jewellery, toy’s or bric-a- brac to sell the cost of hiring a table is £10 for non-food and £15 for food. In order to hire a table collect a booking form from the school office, hand it in and we’ll see you there!

The focus this year, particularly in the UK is on games and gaming, as well as communicating the wider message that online actions can have offline consequences, both now and in the future. Research shows that games are enormously popular with children, with 86% of 9-16s using the internet to play games, and in terms of online activity for young people it comes second only to school work.
The top messages for the day for the various user groups to take away are that games are fun - indeed the first words that come into children’s heads when talking about games are, ‘friends, free, fun, competitive, multiplayer and chatting to friends – but to remember that internet safety messages and advice apply to games as well as other online activities, and there are tools available to help.

FREE MULTI-SKILLS SPORTS CLUBS FOR CHILDREN IN YEAR 1-4Mayfield School Sports Partnership would like to invite your children to our free sports clubs for children aged 5-9 years.
The clubs run at local secondary schools and are part of the schools' Leadership Academy where secondary students are trained in sports leadership. They will lead the club under instruction and supervision.
